That there is a close relationship between obesity and such diseases of lifestyle as diabetes mellitus and high blood pressure. It thus would not be an exaggeration to say that efforts towards the prevention of obesity will provide an immediate method for prevention of lifestyle diseases. An accurate a judgement of body fat levels as possible is considered important for the determination of obesity, and it is widely believed that the most fundamental method of measurement is the hydrostatic weighing method of body density that has been used in the past. With this in mind, we made a comparative study of results from measurements of body fat (percentage body fat) taken from 23 female members of the woman's athletic club at Osaka Kyoiku University using a high precision body fat measuring device BOD POD and a hydrostatic weighing device. As a result, we obtained the regression expression, y=0.873x+4.591(p value <0.0001) relating the percentage body fats (%Fat) measured with both methods, and we were able to demonstrate an extremely high correlation coefficient (R) of 0.932 (R Squared:0.868).
