(α) and I_(α) are respectively the intensities for a hk〓 reflection from preferentially and randomly oriented powder particles; α is an angle between the (hk〓) plane and the plane of preferred orientation [the planes of preferred orientation are (010) for γ_-Li_2ZnSiO_4 and (100) for p-iodobenzoic acid]. Two analytical functions of Gaussian and Cauchy types as a function of α were examined to approximate the orientation distribution function. Multiplying the intensities I_(α) by the values of these two functions, we calculated powder intensity profiles and compared them with the observed intensity profiles. It was found that, although the Cauchy-type function gives a better approximation for representing distribution function ρ(α) vs α for both the two compounds, both the intensity profiles calculated by using the two functions give a satisfactory agreement with the observed profiles. The fact that these two functions have very similar preferred orientation effects on the powder intensity profiles can be explained in terms of a lack of the strong intensities of I_(α) with small values of α, and therefore we cannot say positively which of the two functions is better to represent the distribution of preferred orientation in powder sample in this study.|高木・山口〔1〕は反射型粉末X線回折法において,試料の結晶構造がわかっている場合回折強度の実測値と計算値を比べることにより板状粉末試料の選択配向分布を求める方法を与えた。本論文では,彼らの方法をより一般化しγ_-Li_2ZnSiO_4及びp-ヨード安息香酸に適用し,これらの粉末試料の選択配向分布を調べた。粉末試料における配向面の分布を表わす関数N(α)は,ρ(α)=I_
