| 内容記述 | This paper deals with the comparative study of the Japanese Noctuid larvae as to the food-planets and feeding-habits, pupation-habits. and some structural characters related with them. 1. The Herminiine larvae feed mostly on fallen or dead leaves except a few species feeding on the living moss and the Cryphiinae exclusively on lichens; while the larvae of Amphipyrinae, Acontiinae, and Catocalinae, which are rather miscellaneous in larval characters, feed on a wide variety of plants. 2. The spinnerets are divided on the character of the silk pore into four types (A, P, O, and U) and generally uniform in each of the subfamilies, in which the cocoons, or pupation-habits, are also specialized. 3. In larvae boring in food-plants the setigerous tubercles are usually rather large, in some cases developing into strong chalazae. 4. The emargination in anterior margin of the labrum is extremely shallow and a basal tooth is absent on the oral face of the mandible in genera feeding on the primitive plants, such as the moss, lichens, and fungi; and probably also in genera boring in plants and those feeding on the leaves of coniferous trees. | |||||||||||
